The major pentatonic scale contains five notes. There are five shapes that link together like Tetris pieces. Learn them all, their root notes, and how to connect them.

There are many different ways to label/name these scales. I prefer to name them based on the lowest string that contains a root note and the finger used to play that lowest root note.

Major 6-4

The lowest root note is on string 6, played with finger 4.

Major 6-2

The lowest root note is on string 4, played with finger 2.

Major 4-1

The lowest root note is on string 4, played with finger 1.

Major 5-4

The lowest root note is on string 5, played with finger 4.

Major 5-1

The lowest root note is on string 5, played with finger 1.
